Powditch Newsletter - September/October 2004
No. 17/18
You are here:  home  >  News  >  eNewsletter for September/October 2004
Many apologies if I owe you an email reply. I am beginning to catch up with a very large backlog
since returning from the Powditch Family Gathering (17-19 September), but I do still have lots to type
up and send. Apologies also for my not having emailed any Powditch eNewsletters since May 2004.
As it happens, I had written eNewsletters for the months of June, July and August, but kept running
out of time each month to email them! I did however add them to the website, and I can either send
you back-copies, or would suggest that you can access them from any of the following;

1. The Powditch Family Gathering
the September Powditch Gathering at Morston.
Well, what can I say.  We had 24 of the loveliest Powditch family members that you could ever hope
to meet and be with; the weather was ever so kind to us; the places we visited were fantastic; the food
was excellent (especially the gigantic pieces of fish at The Anchor); everyone we met was so friendly,
and nothing was too much trouble for what Morston and other nearby villages and their inhabitants did
for the Powditch family and for their first ever Family Gathering.

To those who came, both Ang and I thank you ever so much for all of your kind comments; we're just
so happy that you had a really fantastic time.

To all of the other lovely Powditch family members that weren't able to make it to the Gathering, I'm
so sorry that you missed this year's offering, but do appreciate the various 'problems' you were faced
with which didn't allow you to attend.

However, I thought that you might like to know that because of the success of September
2004  -  following which, there was an excellent feedback -  it was suggested that further
Powditch Gatherings should occur; possibly on a yearly or a 2 to 3 year basis. This
obviously might prove attractive for those not able to come to this year's occasion, so if
we can arrange a Gathering for 2005/6, hopefully you might be able to come to that event.
(Perhaps you could let me know whether you would be interested, and whether there's any
particular time of year you'd prefer?)

Besides the above, a video of the whole of the 3-day event (Visit to North Creake Church+Creake
Abbey+Creake Abbey Farm+Family meal with Shanty singing+visit to Wells-next-the-Sea+The
Church Service+visit to local Powditch Villages+Trip on the Powditch Ferry to see the seals, plus
other items) was taken, and will soon be available either on DVD or VHS Video tape.  I'll let you know when the video has been fully edited, as copies will be available.

For the moment, if you would like to read what happened and see some photographs of the event, if
you go to the main page of the website (www.powditch.plus.com/) and click on the link in the top
box, you'll be able to see what we experienced that weekend.

2. Items Updated, Amended, and Added, during September/October,
were as follows
Updated. None (see above)
Amended. None (see above)
Added. Within the (new) Morston section, there's now a page relating to Morston News, plus one for Morstons Military Personnel (which also has several links to external sites)
New. Only the Morston pages mentioned above, plus a 'tester' for the website's new homepage  The page isn't completed yet, but hopefully it will provide you with a 'taster' of things to come! (Comments welcomed re the page)

One section that is already online and accessible, is that relating to Morston (both the 'old' and 'new'
pages are on the website at the moment, although accessed using different 'addresses') The 'new'
pages can be accessed from the Morston homepage, at;-
(If you get a chance to have a look, please do so, and let me know your comments. I'd be most
grateful for them)

3. Welcome to new readers
I must admit to getting a real thrill when an email arrives here that is from a 'new' reader of the website,
and so it is with great pleasure that I welcome Dr. Wolfgang Griem, of the Universidad de Atacama
(Chile), Carolyn Sellars, daughter of Dorothy Harrison nee Powditch (USA), Mary Anne Britnell
(USA), Michael Garwood (UK), Peter Youngman (Wells-next-the-Sea, UK), George and Louise
Powditch (Dorset, UK), Anne Willoughby (Australia), Angela Harris (UK), and Clare Volland (UK)
 - all of whom either have a Powditch family connection, or who have an historical interest in the family.

I do hope that you will find the monthly eNewsletters to be of interest, and should you (or any present readers) wish to contribute any material for inclusion within the website, please do let me know.
(please note the PPS below)

Besides the addition of material, photographs etc, should anyone know of any external links to good websites, please can you let me know, for I'm always on the lookout for sites of especial interest.

Hoping that you and your family are all keeping well, and looking forward to hearing from you.
John

P.S. Although the e-Newsletter is a totally free update regarding 'happenings/changes' to the Powditch web-site, if there should be any particular reason you do not wish to continue receiving a copy of it, perhaps you could e-mail me and let me know? I'd also be most grateful for any details you may know about re births, marriages, deaths, illnesses, change of addresses, achievements, discovery of family papers/documents on or about the Powditch family etc, or anything else. Also, if you know of any family members who are now 'on-line' and who have an e-mail address, I'd be grateful for their details.
