Powditch Newsletter - May 2004
No. 13
You are here:  home  >  News  >  eNewsletter for May 2004
1. The Powditch Family Gathering I don't know whether you realise it, but there's only
3½ months to go until the September Powditch Gathering at Morston (and
3½ months = 14weeks or 98 [approx] days !) Please note that although the time is passing
quickly, it's still not too late to tell me that you are coming, although I would be grateful if you could
let me know whether you'll be able to be there for the full three days (i.e. from 17 to 19 September
2004) ?

As many family members (when the Gathering had first been mentioned/proposed) had intimated
that they would definitely be coming, I am hoping that we will have an excellent crowd (in excess of
30) present over the Gathering Weekend.

Hopefully, the Gathering will be a really Special Powditch Family Event to remember. You'll be able to
visit places and do things which wouldn't normally be accessible to you, and you'll also be able to
personally thank the P.C.C, the Friends of Morston Church, the residents of Morston, and the Bishop
of Norwich, for all of the time and effort they (both individually and collectively) have put into making
the Gathering such a once-in-a-lifetime event.

Both Ang and I look forward to actually meeting you, and to renewing our friendship, and we wish to
assure you that you will be exceedingly welcome.

2. New 'Rules' to be introduced regarding Web Accessability
You may (or may not) be aware that the world wide web is, at the moment, in a consultancy period
regarding "Accessability", and indeed that within the next year, it is intended that changes will be
implemented in order to make websites more accessible to those with varying forms of disabilities.

For some time, I have been amending pages within the Powditch website in order to comply with (as
far as is possible) the "Accessability" remits, and I will continue to do so until all of the website has
been completed. (All new pages created during 2004 already incorporate the requirements)

Should you be interested in discovering more about the above, details of the WAI (Web Accessibility
Initiative) are available via the W3c website, and the Draft versions are also viewable from
http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/PWD-Use-Web/#toc (or alternatively, visit the W3c site at
http://www.w3.org/ and follow the links).

I do hope that you will find that the changes being made to the Powditch website will make it much
easier to use, but as the changes are part of an ongoing process, I will supply details of any pages
amended during each month (i.e. since the previous eNewsletter), under the heading of 'Amended
for Accessibility'.

3. 'Amended for Accessibility' pages (during May 2004) include;
Where are they Now
Introduction
Copyright
Links
About Me
Contact Me
Guestbook
All Months for Birthdays & Anniversaries (including the Master Calendar)
q.v.January through all the months, to December (plus the Master Calendar)
Jouvelet Family
The True Story of George Allen alias Powditch (etc). All of the following pages have been amended for accessability purposes;-

4. Items  Updated,  Amended,  and  Added, during May, were as follows;-
Updated items include;
Latest News
(Guest Book) Entries
The Master webstat page
The Jones Family from c1786 to 2004
Amended. The web-addresses for both the Master Calendar as well as for the month of January have slightly changed.  Please will you amend any 'favourites' or 'bookmarked' pages accordingly, as the 'old' pages won't now be accessible.
Amended. Each eNewsletter page now has a link to a new page (see next item)
Added. A 'master page' for all past issues of Powditch eNewsletters (from May 2003 onwards) has been added, and is accessible from;-  enewsletters_from_may_2003_onwards.htm
Added. The April eNewsletter (and also the May eNewsletter; well, at least it will have been after I've been able to work out how to add it to the website [see item '6' below !)
Besides the above, I am also in the process of amending the website in order to remove the
'frames' of each webpage (i.e. sections to the left, right, top and bottom), wherever applicable and
possible. The removal of the 'frames' should allow you to achieve quicker access/download times.
Regrettably, the actual removal of the frames is taking far longer than it did to create them (!) although
it is being undertaken as an on-going, daily task.

5. Welcome to new readers
It is with great pleasure that I welcome Linda Hudson (Australia) to my monthly e-Newsletters, and I
hope that she will enjoy the information which appears in each issue. Linda's descent is from the son
of Thomas Hayhow and his wife Elizabeth (nee Powditch).

6. An unexpected 'Problem'
Since originally drafting this eNewsletter, I have downloaded some new website-programming
software for my computer. Unfortunately, due to the new program (GlobalScape's CuteSITE builder)
having been based on my old Trellix software, all of my (non-HTML ) files have been overwritten by
the new program and I might not be able to amend some of the files (or update them) to the internet
for a little while. I will keep you updated re the situation however, and hopefully I'll have some good
news by the time of my June eNewsletter. (Incidentally, the next edition will - believe it or not! - be
sent out mid-June as we'll be having a short break in lovely Devon; assuming that is, that the raging
phlebitis in my right leg - of the past 3 weeks - has been cured and that I'll be able to walk in a less-
laughable manner!)

7. Finally, a Reminder !
Sorry to keep going on about it, but if you are still thinking what to do about the First ever Powditch
Family Gathering at Morston (17 to 19 September 2004), I do hope that you will decide to
come, especially as there's so much 'on offer', as well as family members from around the world to
meet.

Hoping that you and your family are all keeping well, and looking forward to hearing from you
sometime.

John

P.P.S. Although the e-Newsletter is a totally free update regarding 'happenings/changes' to the Powditch web-site, if there should be any particular reason you do not wish to continue receiving a copy of it, perhaps you could e-mail me and let me know?
I'd also be most grateful for any details you may know about re births, marriages, deaths, illnesses, change of addresses, achievements, discovery of family papers/documents on or about the Powditch family etc, or anything else. Also, if you know of any family members who are now 'on-line' and who have an e-mail address, I'd be grateful for their details.
