Powditch Newsletter - February 2004
No. 10
You are here:  home  >  News  >  eNewsletter for February 2004
Hi there, and welcome to February's eNewsletter.

First of all, a very big welcome to the newest addition to the Powditch family; - Aaron Robert Powditch,
who was born on 5 February, and special Congratulations to his Mummy and Daddy, Paula and
Andrew (full details are given in the 'Latest News' section on the website).

I do apologise that this eNewsletter is late this month', but this is mainly due to both Ang and I not
having been very well for a few weeks (a 'viral infection') and I'm therefore a little behind with
everything (I've been most grateful for the extra day of a leap year !)

A big thank you to those of you who have already returned your completed Registration Forms (and
deposits) for the September Powditch Gathering at Morston, and I'll be in touch with you soon.

I'm aware that on the Newsletter I sent out in December, I had requested return of the Registration
Forms by 1st March 2004, and I'm also aware that time has passed very quickly since then (even I'm
struggling to work out where the time/months have gone!), but as I need to book the coaches in
March, and as I also have to advise the Restaurant and owners of Creake Abbey Farm of the number
of Powditch's coming to the Gathering, I'd be very grateful to know what you are intending to do re the
Gathering.

Fortunately I do have a little bit of leeway with both the Coach company as well as the Restaurant (for
booking etc), so If you haven't yet filled in your Registration Form for the POWDITCH GATHERING,
could you possibly let me know as soon as possible whether you will be able to attend. Also, if you are
coming, please can you let me know whether you'll be able to be there for the full three days (i.e. from
17 to 19 September 2004) or whether you'll only be able to get there for certain days?

Incidentally, I do apologise for the delay in uploading the pages relating to the * FIRST EVER *
POWDITCH GATHERING, but unfortunately several pages I'd created kept linking to old,
non-updated pages. Although some pages were uploaded in early February, it wasn't until
16 February that all was well and correct! Access to the details is now available from the main
Powditch webpage at www.powditch.plus.com and then by clicking on the word 'here' within the
main yellow box. I do hope that you will find the details to be useful, and that you'll also be able to
show them any relatives I didn't reach with my Christmas mailing.

Up to mid-February I'd been struggling to fit the Powditch Family Tree I'd previously drawn up, and
which was over 6ft x 5ft (2Mtr x 1.5Mtr) onto a sheet just 4ft x 3ft (1.5Mtr x 1Mtr), for the Calligrapher. I
thought that I had succeeded, until the day before I was going to post the 'finished' item to him, when I
suddenly discovered that I'd left off one important branch of the family! Consequently I now have far
less hair than I had before (my hairdresser is thinking of retiring as he hasn't anything to cut now!).

Items updated, amended and added during February, are as follows;-

Updated. Powditch's who fought in WW1. Thanks to George Powditch in Scotland, I have updated the information re C. Powditch. Details now include information re the Cemetary, whilst a photograph of his headstone has been added.
Updated. Latest News section.
Updated. Guest Book entries have had comments added (incidentally, several good comments have been made by visitors to the site who have looked at the information on Morston and other parts of Norfolk, and have found it all to be of interest).
Updated and Amended. Various birthdays.
Added. Details re the 2004 Gathering at Morston, together with a copy of the Registration Form, background details, the Itinerary , the Appeal and the Appeal Letter, are now accessible from within the big yellow box underneath the 'Search this Site' section.
Added. A new section, "Internet Legal Notices and Privacy Policy" in order to comply with internet-law.
Added. A most exciting 'find'. The only known photograph of William Powditch (of North Shields, Australia and New Zealand). Thanks to Peter Oldham of New Zealand, this photo, taken when William was probably in his late 60s or early 70s. More info is on the website page (Click on The Chronology of William Powditch link and then go to the bottom of that page to access the link, or try clicking on the following (www.powditch.plus.com/WilliamPowditch/index.htm) to view the photo.

Besides the above, I am also working hard to get the whole of Volume 3 of "Peerless Powditch's" onto
the website. Up 'til now, only the first 3 Chapters had been included on the website. Over the past
couple of weeks, I have scanned up to the end of Chapter 9, and by the end of March, I hope to have
scanned and edited the rest of the whole Volume; at which time I will upload everything.

It is with great pleasure that I welcome Mick and Sue Duff from Bristol (together with your family) to my
monthly Powditch e-Newsletters, and I hope that you will enjoy the information which appears in each
issue.

Well, I think that that's about it for this month, but I hope that you and your family are all keeping well. If
you are still thinking about the First ever Powditch Family Gathering at Morston (17 to 19
September 2004), I do hope that you'll decide to come, especially as there's so much 'on offer'.

As Pat Powditch from Adelaide put it when she emailed to say that she and Peter are coming to the
Gathering;- "Thankyou so much for this wonderful opportunity to share in what will be 3 days of
magic" (I thought that that was a really lovely way to describe the event)

Looking forward to hearing from you.

John
P.P.S. Although the e-Newsletter is a totally free update regarding 'happenings/changes' to the web-
site, if there should be any particular reason you do not wish to continue receiving a copy of it, perhaps
you could e-mail me and let me know? I'd also be most grateful for any details you may know
about re births, marriages, deaths, illnesses, change of addresses, achievements, discovery
of family papers/documents on or about the Powditch family etc, or anything else. Also, if you
know of any family members who are now 'on-line' and who have an e-mail address, I'd be
grateful for their details.
