  The following entry in Nicholson, Ian,

for the year 1822, reads;-

The above translates as follows;
Arrived at Tasmania from Sydney between 28 and 30 March 1822,  the ship ROYAL
GEORGE, (487 to 500 tons), and departed for England between 30 April and 1 May 1822;
Master of  the schooner = William Powditch;
Owner of the schooner = Somes & Co;
Cargo on outward journey = 6000 bushels of wheat, 129 bales of wool (at 40,000 lbs
weight), timber (possibly the pine collected on the schooner VICTORINE? - see last
entry) and depatches (probably from the Governor's office destined for the British
Government);
Passengers on board = Edward Lord and his 'family' (actually was two of his children);
Purpose of the journey = to go to England via the Cape of Good Hope (South Africa).
Notes = the ship ROYAL GEORGE was subsequently wrecked in a gale at Table Bay
(off Durban, South Africa);

Comments;  Other records state that all cargo was lost, although it is known that no lives were lost.  As far as is known, the ship itself wasn't totally 'wrecked', and it is believed that it managed to arrive back in England, although this has yet to be fully investigated.
