Between the year 1821 - when William Powditch, then unmarried - was the
Commander of the ship "Royal George" which took Sir Thomas Brisbane and his family
to Australia, and the year 1830 - by which time William had married and he and his wife
had 2 children, the family had settled in various 'towns' of New South Wales, Australia.

During those years, William was very active, both on land and at sea.  Having "money
behind him" gave him several opportunities to buy up land, set up businesses,
acquire ships, and build (even in today's market value) 'expensive' properties.

Throughout his time in Australia (and later, in New Zealand) William Powditch was very
good at writing letters, most especially to members of the NSW Government.
He was also very good at suggesting the creation of Governmental Posts (and even
better at promoting himself to fill them!).  Indeed, the 1821-1830 period has so
many references to William Powditch and his family, that I have had to 'recreate' what had
previously been one page of his chronology for the 1821-1830 period, into
10 individual pages as follows;-
