"Peerless Powditchs"
Vol.3 Norfolk Vacated

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

In the original edition (1989) to Volume 3 of “Peerless Powditch's”,  I wrote
that the production of it would not have been possible without the generous
help and assistance of many Powditch's and of all those having an interest
in the family name.

In 1989 several close Powditch friends were still alive, and I had special
reasons to thank them so profusely.

Robert Powditch (d. 1993) of Stamford, was thanked for his hospitality
and generosity in loaning to me a word processor on which all the data for
that volume had been stored and printed.  Thanks were also due to
Raymond Vernon Powditch (d. 1991), who lived in the Dordogne, France,
who had so kindly donated to me the original research notes compiled by
one Thomas Powditch in the 1920s. The notes, which looked at specific
individuals, rather than families in general, covered the period from the
mid-1600s  up to 1926, and proved to be most useful, both in the
compilation of the original volume, and for my ongoing research.

Other Powditch (and née Powditch) family members who allowed me into
their lives and shared with me their living history and memories, but who
(most regrettably for their families, as well as for me) have since died,
include;

Olive Maud Rees Bengy (d. 1997)
Dora Haines  (d. 1992)
Phil Jouvelet    (d. 1999)
Adele Knowles (d. 1997)
Nancy Miller (d. 1997)
Betty McBride (d. 1991)
Alan Cecil Robert Powditch (d. 1997 ?)
Phyllis Constance Powditch (d. 1995)
Jean Powditch (d. 1994)
Winifred Powditch (d. 1997)
Reg Powditch (d. 1999)
Stan Powditch (d. 1996)
Dorothy Vaughan (d. 1994 ?)
George Powditch (d. 198-)
Ethel Powditch (d. 198-)
Emil Stein (d. 199 )
Arthur W J Powditch (d. 2001)
Adele Powditch (d. 2001)

I apologise that I haven't  mentioned every Powditch who has passed on
to the ‘great Podike in the sky’,  but of  those individuals named above, I
have over several years either met, or had long telephone and letter contact
with them, and their personal information has greatly increased my
knowledge of  Powditch  history.

To name every Powditch  who has so kindly helped me over the past 15 (at
least) years, would require a volume in itself!  To everyone I would like to
express my deepest gratitude, for although I have spent hours pouring over
various records, have travelled the southern hemisphere and  have built up
large collections of books and documents, all of it has only been possible
because you are, or were, a Powditch.

If I have to pick out any (living) persons in particular to thank, I have to say
that I am especially indebted to Patricia Powditch (Adelaide), Jenny Arnott
(London), Louise Hutchinson (Scotland), Esme Stone (Derbyshire) Marjorie
Stein (London) and  Robert Nilson (Sydney), for their having shared with me
details of  their own research.  Together with the individuals mentioned, I
have been greatly helped by Archivists, Librarians, Research Assistants
and  the Clergy,  through my use of records and other facilities at the
County Archive Services of  West and South Glamorgan,  Norfolk  Record
Office, Kings Lynn Reference Library, the Society of Genealogists, Norfolk
Family History Society, St. Nicholas’ Church, Wells-next-the-Sea, All Saints’
Church, Morston, as well as various Libraries and Societies in Sydney,
Adelaide and Melbourne.

Since I  began researching the Powditch family (way back in 1984), I have
not only  thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the seeking, digging, journeying
and (often!) frustration, but I feel so privileged to have gained along the
way, so many Powditch friends, even though I still haven't been able to
meet up with everyone. I will however be eternally grateful  to you as a
Powditch or for Powditch origins for all of your help, returned
questionnaires, documents, certificates, photographs, indentures, and for
your own personal researches, but most of all,  for the friendship.
Thank you so very, very much.

Finally, for the many frustrations caused to my wife and children, due to
Powditch paperwork being "all-over-the-kitchen-table", together with my
going to bed in the early hours of the morning, my causing lonely evenings,
and my "talking Powditch, I can only apologise, and hope that production
of the next volume will allow us to spend more time together as a family.
