Stiffkey, where for this evening's meal we'd been
'upgraded' from the 'little room' we'd been in
yesterday, to a much larger (but still not the largest)
room, where we had much more room to sit and
eat.
With us for this evening's celebration were two
very good friends to both the area's Local History
as well as to Powditch knowledge, and who would
also be our Guides on Sunday (as they had been
at our First Family Gathering in 2004) - John and
Pam Peake - and it was really lovely to have them
with us, and for everyone to not only meet up, but
also share in the evening's meal, raffle and
companionship.
Having looked at the Menu
(take a look and see
what was on offer), as well as the 'Specials Board',
everyone ordered their food, and when it arrived,
by gum, not only did it look really fantastic, but it
also tasted delicious - and there was plenty of it
too!
As you can probably imagine, after the all the
chattering before the meals arrived, once the
eating actually began and everyone tucked in
(after the Powditch Prayer had been said) the
level of conversation reduced considerably!
The Powditch Family Prayer
O Lord, we thank you for watching over our Powditch
Family throughout all ages. We thank you too, that in
time of plague or war or personal troubles, as also in
times of happiness, that you are always there to listen
to our pleas and thanks.
O Lord, forgive us for doubting your love, or
misunderstanding your reassurances, in our times of
stress when we have prayed to you, especially for
loved ones departed this life or those who left our
homes without word, or when families’ have parted or
gone far away.
That we of the worldwide Powditch Family are gathered
here today in your sight, is testament to our faith we
each have in you. We thank you for watching over each
of us this day, and for watching over our ancestors
*[who worshipped here before us], who, through your
daily guidance were led from strength to strength, so
that we too might know and enjoy that same love.
We pray for all those of our Powditch Family who have
gone before us, that their love and character will remain
with us. We pray too for those of our family unable to
be with us today, hoping that next time they will be able
to be part of our special family gatherings.
O Lord, hear our prayer.
Amen
N.B. Re * When the Prayer is read in a place other than a Church,
the words "who worshipped here before us" are to be omitted.

During the 'lull' between courses, Ang went around
the tables selling Raffle tickets (all prizes having
been set up on a side table previously) - all
proceeds from which, were going to the Friends
of Morston Church for much needed repairs etc of
All Saints' Church, Morston.
Prizes were a mix of Photograph frames, books
(family history), vases, a bottle of wine, bottle
opener, notebooks, and several other items, all of
which went to many happy winners.
We also held a short auction for a couple of items,
the 'Star' item being a newly reprinted copy of
"Peerless Powditch's", Vol.3, 'Norfolk Vacated',
although we also had a Dansk Clock and a pair of
Dansk candle-sticks on offer (money raised from
these items being shared between both the
proposed Powditch Award and the Friends of
Morston Church). Needless to say, the copy of
"Peerless Powditch's" attracted some fierce
bidding (especially as the book has been out of
print since the early 1990s), although it was
eventually 'won' by Pam Peake, who wanted a
copy of the book for the Blakeney Area Historical
Society's (BAHS) Local History Centre.
